Bredene is the first and only coastal municipality to have a nude beach. Naturists have discovered a spot here just for themselves. Its location at the foot of a protected dune reserve ensures a bit of privacy. The nude zone does not interfere with those who wish to stroll along the water’s edge while fully clothed.
Naturism is a matter of mutual respect. Since the first nude beach was established in Bredene in 2001, this stretch of beach has become one of the busiest bathing areas on our coast. At peak times, some 1,000 naturists crowd onto the 350-meter-wide strip.
A few points to keep in mind:
- Stay within the designated area: nude recreation is permitted only within the nude beach area marked by signs. Outside this area, nude recreation is not allowed.
- Accessibility: The nude beach is open annually from the Saturday before the Easter break through the second Sunday in October.
- Convenient and safe: To reach the nude beach conveniently and safely, it is best to use the tunnel located near the Hippodroom tram stop (beach post 6).
- Lifeguards: During July and August, lifeguards monitor the safety of beachgoers. Lifeguards are also on duty on weekends in September when the weather is nice.
