Turkeyenhof local history museum

If history is your bag, make sure you visit the charming Turkeyenhof museum. This polder farmstead dating back to 1737 will give you an insight into the lives of people in the eighteenth century. You’ll find out everything you wanted to know about how they lived and worked.

Ryckewaertshof / Anto Diez

Ryckewaertshof boasts a wealth of history. It’s old, but by no means out! The Benedictines of Sint-Rikiers built this monastery in the 13th or 14th century, and it was purchased by the municipal authorities in 1980. After a thorough renovation, it was converted into a cultural centre.

Sint-Rikiers church

If you’re in the town centre, our village church is absolutely worth a visit. Its history dates back to 1087, when the Benedictine monks of Saint-Ricquier built a priory on this site.

OLV Ter Duinen fishermen’s chapel

On the corner of Kapelstraat and Klemskerkestraat, you’ll spot a picturesque little chapel amid the greenery: Onze-Lieve-Vrouw Ter Duinen. The families of fishermen and women visit this pilgrimage site to pray for their loved ones. The chapel dates back to 1736.

Water tower

This picturesque tower is part of our national heritage. It has been a focal point in the landscape since 1955: you simply can’t visit Bredene without laying eyes on it. Its charming appearance can be seen from miles away, and best of all, you can climb to the top too!
